The Situation

In my grade 12 year of highschool I was told by my digital media teacher that the yearbook wasnt going to be happening for our year. Me and two friends took this personally as we weren't going to allow our graduating class be the only one without a yearbook.

The Task At Hand

As the Yearbook Liaison for Student Council, my first task was to start the yearbook committee up again or I would be out of a job. To start the committee I had to get in contact with our previous yearbook printing company as well as find a staff advisor to oversee our meetings. Once the committee was approved, me and my fellow execs had to recruit a team for the next 10 months.

The Action's I Took

For the next 10 months, I focused on the design and marketing of the yearbook, while the other 2 heads focused on photography and journalism. I oversaw a team of 10 designers, ensuring they met the strict deadlines for completed pages. While overseeing the design team, I recruited a head of design who I tasked with creating specialized graphics and assets for the book. Our team decided on organizing the book by season, with each season having its own sub-theme. I created a palette of 3-4 colours for each season to use, as well as design instructions for my team to follow for each page. The cover and endsheets for the book I had created earlier in the year, as a project in my grade 12 digital media class - this is what established our theme for the book. In my free time I created title page graphics as well as collages for each section of the book. While designing, I was frequently in contact with the printing company representative, as well as the 2 other heads of the committee.

The Results

As a result of 10 months of hard work, I was able to design and deliver a cohesive and unique yearbook to 500 students and faculty, on the dot. Pricing each book at $35, we were able to generate over $17,500 of revenue. My design team was able to complete all 168 pages on time and with exceptional attention to detail and theme.
